Teaching in a Distant Classroom

Every one of us has a worldview and all of us, intentionally or not, share our worldviews with one another. How much more influential is the worldview of a teacher, particularly one who is given a platform in front of eager students?

In the book Teaching in a Distant Classroom IICS Professor Dr. Teri McCarthy writes:

“Whether teaching in Africa, Asia, Latin America, or Europe, educators need to develop a sound understanding of how they see and interpret the world around them. How we view the world, knowingly and unknowingly, impacts the way we teach. All teaching is based on the teacher’s worldview. This influences the teacher’s philosophy of education, relationships with students, effectiveness as a teacher and even the details of lesson planning. By understanding a Christian worldview of teaching, we come to terms with who we are and how, why and what we teach.” (pp. 29-30)

Our desire at IICS is to see that every University student will be able to encounter at least one teacher who could articulate a Christian worldview. Copies of “Teaching in a Distant Classroom,” can be purchased through any major retail bookseller or by calling us at (913) 962-4422.
