Universities are centers of influence
For centuries, universities have been centers of change - for The values being taught in universities today will shape our world tomorrow. Lives are changed in university classrooms University students are forming their beliefs in the classroom every day. A violent war of values and truth - a battle for the soul of society - is raging in nations around the globe. It is critical for us to expose students who will be the leaders of tomorrow's world to truth-to a biblical worldview. It has been said, "The university is the church of the secular society, because it is where the values of the culture are shaped." Ideas have consequences. Articulate, well-prepared committed believers must present the reality of Jesus Christ in the most strategic marketplace of ideas - the university. "It can be said without danger of exaggeration that that ideology which captures the higher education of a nation will ultimately determine its mind and soul." Howard McClusky A recent survey by The World-Leaders Almanac found that over ninety percent of the world's current heads of state graduated from a university or institution of higher education. Imagine the difference in the world if these leaders had been exposed to the truth of Jesus Christ in university classrooms taught by evangelicals who presented their disciplines from a Christian worldview. Discipleship with a Christian worldview is necessary for long-term impact Evangelism without discipleship and development of a Christian worldview will be unfruitful in the long term. Future leaders must recognize and understand the Lordship of Christ over all of living and learning. Individuals, families, businesses and governments benefit when leaders at every level and sector of society are taught how biblical principles impact personal and national development. Scores of universities are asking for professors In North America, Christian truth is often not welcome in higher education. But scores of universities in other parts of the world are asking for professors who are moral, ethical, hard-working, articulate and committed to truth, even from a Christian perspective. Students around the world are searching for hope and meaning. What an incredible opportunity for Christian professors to influence them by teaching in the classroom and ministering to them outside the classroom as well! Many ministries focus on reaching students through evangelism and discipleship outside the classroom. IICS focuses on teaching students inside the classroom as a part of the university system itself. "The university is a clear-cut fulcrum with which to move the world. Change the university and you change the world." Dr. Charles Malik |
