Dr. Teri McCarthy

Writer-in-Residence

Teri McCarthy has a PhD in education with an emphasis in second language acquisition from the University of Kansas. She has worked with the International Institute for Christian Studies (IICS) since 1996. Teri served as Director of Faculty Development for several years and as Writer-in-Residence. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Linguistics at Vilnius Pedagogical University in Vilnius, Lithuania teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses.  In 2010, she served as Chair of the English Department at LCC International University in Klaipeda, Lithuania.  She has taught at the university level long-term in China and Russia, including time as a Fulbright Scholar in Yekaterinburg, Russia.  She has also lectured in Holland and Nigeria.  After the US defeat of the Taliban in Afghanistan, she led the first academic team from the West to train Afghani professors in 2003 in a conference hosted by the Minister of Higher Education of Afghanistan.  Again in 2006 she led a team sponsored by UNESCO to Kabul providing training in educational leadership for the presidents of all nineteen Afghan universities.  Since 1983, Teri’s teaching and research activities have taken her to 50 nations.

Teri’s focus is on mobilizing the Church for missions and issues of Christian worldview. Teri has written numerous articles and papers and she has been a national speaker for the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement course offered by the US Center for World Mission. She is also a sought-after speaker and workshop leader at mission conferences, churches, and on college campuses.

She married the President of IICS, Dr. Daryl McCarthy, in 1994. When they’re not overseas, Teri and Daryl live in Lenexa, Kansas.  They are blessed with two children. Lance, their son, and Jamie have given Teri and Daryl three grandchildren: Jackson (2006), William (2008) and Athena (2010) and live in Mission, Kansas.
